What Are CEREC Crowns?

It’s possible that you are not aware of CEREC crowns, if you haven’t visited a dentist for restorations lately, you may not know about the technology that allows dental offices to make these same-day crowns.

CEREC Crowns Are Made In-Office and Same-Day

It used to be that a patient needed two dental office visits, in order for a crown to be placed. During the initial visit, the dentist would prepare the tooth for the crown by removing decay or damage, building it up, taking impressions, and fitting for a temporary crown. The impressions were sent off to the dental lab where the crown would be constructed. This is still the case for traditional crowns. However, CEREC crowns are different. They are created in-office, same-day. They are created with CAD/CAM technology and a mill machine, allowing for the restoration to be completed in one visit. It’s also possible for more than one restoration or treatment to take place in that visit, since the appointment time is less.

CEREC Crowns Can Be Combined With Sedation Dentistry

For patients with dental anxiety, nitrous oxide allows a feeling of relaxation. This mild sedation method can be easily teamed with CEREC crowns because it takes effect immediately and wears off quickly after treatment. If the nitrous oxide is not enough, an oral conscious sedation will provide a more deep relaxation.
