Do you know if Luster Premium Home Teeth Whitening is a decent product? Is it safe?
Lacey
Dear Lacey,
I have looked at the ingredients that this product contains. I would not recommend it to you. There is not a legitimate whitening ingredient in this product. Their so-called whitener is actually just a pigment that comes from zinc oxide. This will whiten your teeth, but only for a time. The pigment will wear off. Then, you will have to purchase this again for it to be white again. I’m sure they have some great reviews, however, I am sure that they were written before the pigment wear off.
If you really want an over-the-counter product then I suggest you use Crest Whitestrips. These do work. There are a few downsides to consider. First, it is much weaker than what you would get from a dentist. To put it in perspective, the Crest Whitestrips have about a 6% strength. The gel you would get with your a dentist is about 33%. This means you will have to use significantly more boxes to get the same amount of whitening you would with your dentist.
A second problem is they only cover the front six teeth. Most smiles are eight to ten teeth wide. To get all of the visible teeth evenly toned, you will need to use extra strips. That will also cost you more money.
In all honesty, the safest and most affordable solution is for you to get professional teeth whitening done. It will be more effective. It is more expensive up front, but you’ll probably end up paying more in the long run with the Whitestrips. You’ll just pay for it a box at a time. I am sure if the initial cost is too much, you could explain to your dentist the problem and he or she should be willing to work with you on a payment plan.
If he’s not, you could easily switch to a dentist that was. There are many affordable dentists out there. Teeth whitening is not one of those specialized procedures that require a dentist with extensive cosmetic training. It pretty much only requires skills they already gained in dental school.
