A Tooth Infection But No Money?

I have a tooth that is leaving me in so much pain. It is so bad that my cheek is swollen. I don’t have any money at the moment. I’m not exagerrating that at all. I’ve been eating potatoes for a week because I can not afford food. I called my dentist and he said payment is expected upfront. When I told him I didn’t have the money they essentially said to call back when I do. I honestly don’t know what to do. Is there any chance you have a recommendation for me?

Dear Emily,

A woman in pain holding her jaw

I am sorry you are going through this. Right off the bat I am going to tell you that you are not with the best dentist for your circumstances. Most dentists go into their field because they are compassionate and want to help people. Yours does not seem to be one of those. Yes, dentists have to earn money to cover their overhead as well as feed their family. However, you have a dental emergency and an compassionate dentist would have worked with you.

You do not want to mess around with a tooth infection because they will spread beyond your tooth. Yours is already up your cheek. This will keep spreading and you do not want it to reach your brain, throat, or heart. Then you go from a dental emergency to something life threatening.

Do an internet search using the term affordable dentist. These dentists will be more likely to work with you than others. I feel confident that you will find a dentist who will be willing to give you the treatment you need and allow you to pay it out.
