Enfield Sedation Dentist
Being fearful of going to the dentist is a very real and very common feeling. It may stem from any number of things, from a traumatic past experience or fear of shots, to embarrassment over the health of your teeth or knowing that you have a difficult time getting numb. No matter the reason for your fear, Dr. Cummiskey understands your anxiety and has the training to help you.
Dr. Cummiskey is a sedation dentist, meaning he offers what is called oral sedation to help put his fearful patients at ease. With oral sedation you take a pill before your appointment that will help you be relaxed and sleepy during your time with Dr. Cummiskey, but not unconscious. Your normal body functions are largely unaffected, such as breathing, heart rate, etc. You will feel indifferent to pain and may not even remember your time in the chair when you are finished, but you are awake enough during your appointment to follow any instructions to open your mouth, etc.
You will need someone to accompany you to the appointment and drive you home as it won’t be safe for you to drive.
Qualifications of a Sedation Dentist
Not just anyone is qualified to administer oral sedation. Dr. Cummiskey is certified through DOCS (Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation) and has gone through many hours of additional training to be able to safely help you have a healthy mouth in a way that is comfortable for you.
